Astrobiology is the scientific study of life in the universe. It asks some of humanity’s deepest questions: How did life originate on Earth? Can life exist elsewhere in the universe? What conditions are required for life? How can we detect life beyond Earth? What does the existence of extraterrestrial life mean for humanity? Astrobiology does not assume aliens exist — it uses science, evidence, and experimentation to explore the possibility of life beyond Earth. This course introduces students to astrobiology as a rigorous scientific discipline, not science fiction.
