At the moment, India’s space market is worth merely $7 billion (Rs 52,000 crore), which is just 2% of the global space industry which is pegged at $360 billion (Rs 26.7 lakh crore). To date, Kawa Space has raised $600,000 (Rs 4.5 crore) from investors like Speciale Invest, AngelList, CureFit’s Mukesh Bansal and Paytm’s Vijay Shekhar Sharma. #8 Dhruva Space: Founded by Sanjay Nekkanti in 2012, Dhruva Space offers end to end space solutions for anyone looking to launch their own small satellites in space. They take care of everything from designing the satellite as per their customer’s requirement, building it, finding the right launch provider, along with providing ground station support. Dhruva Space has raised Rs 5 crore ($670,000) from investors like Mumbai Angels and Ravikanth Reddy, Managing Director, Hotcrete. #7 Satellize: Founded by Kris Nair and Ashhar Farhan in 2016, Satellize builds miniaturized satellites for its customers. The company rose to fame on 4th of December 2018, when it became India’s first company to launch a privately owned satellite in space with the help of SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket. #6 Bellatrix Aerospace: Founded by Rohan Ganapathy, Nuthan Prasanna and Yashas Karanam in 2015, Bellatrix Aerospace is building a reusable micro launch vehicle ‘Chetak’ and a medium category launch vehicle ‘Garuda’ which will be capable for carrying payloads of up to 200 kg and 1000 kg each. So far, Bellatrix Aerospace has raised $3 million (Rs 22 crore) from First Cheque, growX Ventures and StartupXeed Ventures. #5 Agnikul Cosmos: Founded by Srinath Ravichandran and Moin SPM in 2016, Agnikul Cosmos is building Agnibaan, which is a customisable rocket that can launch small satellites weighing up to 100 kg into space. Till date, Agnikul Cosmos has raised Rs 26.4 crore ($3.5 million) from investors like Speciale Invest, Artha India Ventures, Pi Ventures, LionRock Capital, and Globevestor. #4 Skyroot Aerospace: Founded by Pawan Kumar Chandana and Naga Bharath Daka in 2018, Skyroot Aerospace is new age spacetech startup that is looking to build its series of Vikram launch vehicles that will be capable of launching payloads weighing 200 to 700 kg into the low-earth orbit. The company made the headlines earlier this year when they became the first Indian private company to successfully test their fully 3D printed Raman engine showcasing their capabilities. #3 Pixxel: Founded by Awais Ahmed and Kshitij Khandelwal in 2019, Pixxel is building a constellation of 24-30 small Earth-imaging satellites which will provide them with the capability to monitor the earth 24*7 in real-time. Pixxel has raised a total of $5.7 million (Rs 42.3 crore) from growX Ventures, Blume Ventures, Techstars Starburst Space Accelerator, Lightspeed India Partners and Inventus Capital. #2 Vesta Space Technology: *REMOVED* #1 Team Indus: Founded by Rahul Narayan, Indranil Chakraborty, Sameer Joshi, Dilip Chabria, Julius Amrit and Sheelika Ravishankar in 2010, Team Indus was one of the first aerospace startups in India which was created with the goal of winning the Google X Lunar Prize that was announced in 2007. Till date, Team Indus has raised $20 million (Rs 150 crore) from Nandan Nilekani, R.K. Damani, Sasken Technologies and Rakesh Jhunjhunwala.
